2024 World Junior Lacrosse Championship Day 3 Recap

by Stephen Stamp

The game winning goal was scored 1:17 into the first quarter. That is how one-sided this game turned out to be. Canada went up 2-0 on a transition breakaway goal by Weatherby followed by Smith ripping a rocket to the bottom right corner :28 seconds later.

Day 3 Recap

CANADA 28 - POLAND 1

Poland got the next goal. Luke Walski was checked to the floor from behind right on top of the crease, drawing a delayed penalty. But Walski popped back up near the boards and tossed a perfect pass to the rushing Alfred Miklos III, who tucked a shot home to the far top corner.

That would prove to be all the scoring Poland could muster, though, while Canada just ramped up their offence by the quarter; they scored 5 Goals in the 1st Quarter, :6 in the second, 7 in the 3rd and 10 in the 4th.

Smith wound up with 7 Goals and 1 Assist, Thomas (5 G/3 A) and Tomkins (5 G/2 A) each had 5-Goal nights, while Elliott put up a goal and 8 Assists to lead all scorers with 9 Points.

The much-anticipated United States vs Canada game tonight (Tuesday, August 6th) takes on even greater importance now. The USA has their bye day on Wednesday; with a loss to Canada Tuesday, they would need to see Poland beat the Thistles by a score at least 17 more goals against Scotland than Canada does against Australia.
