Canada Wins Bronze at 2022 IIJL World U18 Lacrosse Championship

BUFFALO, NY – The 2022 IIJL World U18 Lacrosse Championship concluded this past weekend with Canada finishing with a 2-1 Round Robin record and 1-1 Playoff record, closing out the championship with a bronze medal win over Poland. 

GAME 2 | CANADA 13 – UNITED STATE 11 BOXSCORE

Canada scored first and kept the lead until the 2nd Quarter when the United States scored an even strength goal at the 2:43 mark. Both Canada and the United States we each go on 4 Goal runs of their own to be deadlocked at 9 going into the 4th Quarter. Canada took the lead early into the 4th at 10:45 with the United States responding late at 4:10 to tie things back up. Responding again in less than 20 second the United States took their second lead of the the game at 3:56 in the 4th Quarter. In transition, Lucas Fraser tied the game for Canada again at 2:50 in the 4th. Canada then pulled away with Goals from Matt Hamill at 1:34 on the Power Play and again at :28 even strength.

GAME 4 | CANADA 25 – POLAND 4 BOXSCORE

Canada scored early and often facing off against Poland in their second game of the 2022 WU18LC. Poland score a total of 4 Goals against Canada, bookended by 13 Goal and 6 Goal runs by Canada.

GAME 6 | HAUDENOSAUNEE 14 – CANADA 12 BOXSCORE

It is often said that lacrosse is a game of runs, and Game 6 against the Haudenosaunee proved the old adage true. The game would open with Canada and Haudenosaunee exchanging 2 Goal runs before the Haudenosaunee would extend a 7 Goal unanswered run into the opening minutes of the 3rd Quarter at 12:15. Canada would close the gap with two 3 Goal runs of their own, first in the 3rd then in the 4th to close the gap, ultimately losing the final Round Robin game of the 2022 IIJL World U18 Lacrosse Championship by a score of 14-12.

SEMI-FINAL | UNITED STATES 10 – CANADA 9  BOXSCORE

In the most anticipated Semi-Final of the 2022 IIJL World U18 Lacrosse Championship, fans watched a rematch of the second game of the tournament where Canada (2-1 Round Robin) would face-off against the eager United States (1-2 Round Robin). Canada outscored the United States 7-4 in the first half. Manson Luoma scored a goal for Canada at 2:23in the 3rd Quarter to make it 8-6 for Canada. The United States would then go on a 4 Goal run, including a Short Handed goal by Rylan Padelford to take the lead at 12:33 in the 4th Quarter. The US would add another to make it 10-8, before Lucas Fraser would score Canada's next and final goal to bring them within one goal at 3:35 left in the fourth. Canada was not able to capitalize on any 6-on-5 chances, losing the Semi-Final, moving on to play Poland for the Bronze Medal.

BRONZE MEDAL | CANADA 27 – POLAND 7 BOXSCORE 

While Matthew Dyszkiewicz opened up the score of the Bronze Medal game and giving Poland their only lead of the game, it was not enough to keep pace with Canada, who scored only a minute later and often in the penultimate game of the 2022 IIJL World U18 Lacrosse Championship. Top scorer for Canada was Dawson Battersby (3-4) with 7 Points, followed by Lucas Fraser (3-3) with 6 Points, and Levi Roest (4-1), Nathan Jones (3-2), and Cooper Joyce (2-3) all with 5 Points each. Canada won the Bronze Medal by a score of 27-7.
