CLL Opens 2024 IIJL Commonwealth Cup with Decisive Win Over Storm

ALTONA, VIC — After two days of travel, 18 players from across Canada arrived in Australia to compete in the 2024 IIJL Commonwealth Cup at Altona Lacrosse Club, minutes outside of Melbourne, Victoria. 

The opening game of the event featured the Canadian roster against the Melbourne Storm, which is comprised mostly of local junior players from clubs across the state of Victoria. 

Canada was lead in scoring by #6 Alexander Angus (East St. Paul, MB), scoring 6 Goals. The Melbourne Storm were lead in scoring by # 33 Gabriel Bleed (Altona Lacrosse Club) with 2 Goals and 1 Assist and wad named Player of the Game for Melbourne. Canada' Player of the Game was awarded to #66 Colby Thomas (Bonnyville, AB) for his impressive defensive and transition efforts which saw him forcing a turn over against Bleed, running the length of the floor and scoring the 23rd Goal of the 24 — 7 final score.
