Kiazyk Brilliant in NLL Week 9

by CLL

It's never a dual moment in the National Lacrosse League and Week 9 was no exception. With only four games on the schedule, it was hard to anticipate the drama that would unfold. Let's take a look at what unfolded, with close attention to our Alumni's contributions.

Toronto Rock 14 - Calgary Roughnecks 9

Are the Rock on a roll? Chris Weier ('19 E-Box) was solid once again on defence. He was assessed 2 Penalty Minutes, had 1 Shot on Goal, picked up 1 Loose Ball, and 1 Blocked Shot.

For the Roughnecks Haiden Dickson ('18) is looking to find his groove but still managed to pick up 2 Assists and 2 Loose Balls in the loss.

Vancouver Warriors 8 - Ottawa Black Bears 4

In a game that was highlighted by defence Johnathan Peshko ('18, '19) managed to total 1 Goal, on 6 Shots, and picked up 3 Loose Balls.

A low scoring affair, Jacob Dunbar ('19) had 1 Assist, 4 Shots on Gaol, 5 Loose Balls. Jeff Teat ('15) 3 Assists, 9 Shots on Goal, 4 Loose Balls, and 1 Blocked Shot.

Mammoth 11 - Rochester Knighthawks 10

For the Mammoth Sean Kriwokon ('21) had another quiet weekend on the stats sheet, but he was impactful in the Colorado's one goal victory over the Knighthawks.

For Rochester Austin Hasen ('19) was back in the line-up, he worked hard off-ball but was kept off the scoresheet.

Saskatchewan Rush 17 - Albany Firewolves 13

Prior to the game, the Rush's starting goalie needed to be away for the birth of his baby. Leading to Thomas Kiazyk ('21 U17) to get the call for his first start between the pipes. Added to the drama, the Rush attempted to add Laine Hruska ('18, '19, '21) to the active roster, but was denied by the league due to the request being same-day as the game. With the table set Kiazyk would fly solo on his way to a brilliant performance and the first win of his NLL career; making 39 Saves in the full 60 Minutes of action.

For the Firewolves Nick Chaykowsky ('15) recorded 1 Shot on Goal, picked up  4 Loose Balls and 1 Caused Turnover.
