Canada Announces Four Regional Combines for 2018 WJLC

by PRESS RELEASE

VANCOUVER, BC – The first of four regional combines has been scheduled for March 24, 2018 at SaskTel Centre in Saskatoon, SK to provide Canadian players from the prairies, ages twenty (20) and under, the opportunity to showcase their lacrosse skills and athleticism prior to the summer evaluation period.

IIJL Canada General Manager, Chris Fox explained, “The dates for this year’s World Junior Lacrosse Championship have presented a few unique challenges and has required us to be more diligent in how we assemble our roster. The most notable being that players whose teams are on course to compete for the Founders and Minto Cup will not be asked to choose between a National or World Junior Championship.” Fox added, “The sacrifices players make during their junior careers for the fleeting chances to compete for a Canadian National Championship are special and it is imperative that we support players and their teams in those pursuits.”

Additional combines scheduled in Ontario for Sunday April 8, 2018 at Iroquois Lacrosse Arena in Six Nations, Alberta for Saturday April 14, 2018 at the Calgary Soccer Centre located in South East Calgary, and British Columbia with time and location to be determined at a later date.

“Knowing that some players may not be available prompted us to establish regional combines allowing us to identify potential players early in the process,” elaborated Fox. “They also provide us with a great opportunity to include staff from each region throughout the process, making the team more inclusive at every level.”

Canada Assistant Regional General Managers include Joe Vetere – Alberta, Greg Rennie – British Columbia, Jeff Dowling – Ontario, and Randy Trobak – Saskatchewan.

The 2018 IIJL World Junior Lacrosse Championship will be hosted at SaskTel Centre in Saskatoon, home of the Saskatchewan Rush of the National Lacrosse League (NLL) from August 8 – 12, 2018.

A press conference is scheduled for March 24, 2018 at SaskTel Centre where 2015 & 2016 IIJL World Junior Lacrosse Championship chair and Iroquois General Manager, Gewas Schindler and 2018 World Junior Lacrosse Championship Co-Chair and Canada Assistant Regional General Manager, Randy Trobak will be on hand to answer questions from media and signify the passing of the tournament from Six Nations to Saskatoon. The 2018 IIJL World Junior Lacrosse Championship will mark the first time the tournament has been held outside of traditional Haudenosaunee territory and the first for a Canadian organizing committee.
