Double Round-Robin Proves Too Much for Canada U18s
Flooring the youngest roster among the teams competing, Canada heads home with the Bronze Medal failing to advance to the Gold Medal Game.
Largely composed of returning players from the 2024 IIJL World U16 Lacrosse Championship roster that won the Gold Medal last year, Canada was unable to mach the size and athleticism of the United States and NAMLA; who represented the Haudenosaunee.
In the double round-robin formate, Canada finished with a disappointing 0-4 record.
Despite the winless record, the championship for Canada was not without its glimmers of star-power. Leading scorer for Canada was Addison Urquhart (Cowichan Bay, BC) with 9 Goals in 4 Games. Urquhart also represented Canada the 2025 IIJL Commonwealth Cup. Followed by newcomers Michael Dyck (Rosemary, AB) and Noah Keller (Edmonton, AB) scored 8 Goals, 3 Assists and 5 Goals, 2 Assists, in 4 Games respectively.
In transition, Brayden Hackett (Spruce Grove, AB) provided and Taeson Knife (Fort Macleod, AB) were exceptional. This was Knife's third event with CLL this year, competing in the IIJL Commonwealth Cup and CLL European Challenge.
Defensively, Ronin Hardie (Lower Sackville, NS) and Dagrin Bahr-Hemsing (Brooks, AB) provided size and tenacity on the back end.
CLL now turns attention towards the 2025 IIJL World U16 Lacrosse Championship taking place August 28-31, also in beautiful East Aurora, NY at The Classic Rink.
