CANADA World JuniorÂ
As an International Indoor Junior Lacrosse (IIJL) Founding Member Nation, the Canadian Lacrosse League (CLL) represents Canada at the IIJL World Junior Lacrosse Championship (WJLC), while administering major junior box lacrosse domestically in Canada.
Players are selected to compete with the CLL Canada international program at the IIJL World Junior Lacrosse Championship by attending Regional Combines. Regional Combines provide players with opportunities to compete in controlled environments and work with CLL staff prior to the start of the Summer Evaluation Period.Â
The CLL understands that not all players who are interested in competing internationally are able to attend a Regional Combine; either due to a scheduling conflict, injury, or attending post-secondary education. If you are interested in participating please complete the form below.
IMPORTANT Players are only extended invitation to compete with the CLL Canada international program at the IIJL World Junior Lacrosse Championship once their Junior A/B/C team has been mathematically eliminated from playoff contention in their respective league or eliminated from playoffs prior to the start of World Junior mini-camp. To reiterate, a player's priority is to win a National Championship with their Junior A/B/C team - players are not asked to "choose" between winning a Junior A/B/C National Championship or winning a World Junior Gold Medal. The World Juniors is an international opportunity for junior players to play meaningful lacrosse well into August on a marquee platform.
IIJL World Junior Lacrosse Championship
The World Junior Lacrosse Championship is for players who are and will remain under twenty one years old (U21) for the calendar year in which the championship is played. The 2024 IIJL World Junior Lacrosse Championship is open to players born in 2004, 2005, and 2006, players who will be turning 20, 19, or 18 years of age in 2024.
The history of the IIJL World Junior Lacrosse Championship (WJLC) first took shape in 2015 as the U-19 World Lacrosse Challenge. Originally, the tournament was scheduled in conjunction with the 2015 FIL World Indoor Lacrosse Championship (WILC) as the U-19 Indoor Lacrosse Festival in Buffalo, NY. However, when Buffalo was removed as one of two host locations, organizers were told to cancel and remove the festival from the WILC lineup. With international team flights already purchased, the festival was moved to Six Nations and renamed. The first World Juniors featured 12 teams, including regional squads from Canada and Iroquois, Junior National Teams from Czech Republic, Israel, and the United States along with German club team Deutschland Adler rounding out the field. Canada West won the gold medal game while Iroquois West captured the bronze medal.Â
