Altona Lacrosse Club has been a cornerstone of the Victorian lacrosse since since its formation in 1967, growing from its local roots to becoming one of the state's leading clubs with premier facilities — including floodlit grass fields utilized by Stats and National teams and dedicated box lacrosse court.
The Club competes against other historic Victorian Clubs in field lacrosse competitions under Lacrosse Victoria, helping foster fierce but friendly rivalries with traditional clubs across the state while also serving as the home of box lacrosse in Australia.
In addition to CLL's Canada Development Team (CANDT) roster, the 2026 Commonwealth Cup includes three (3) international teams battling it out in a round-robin format before heading into the medal game. Teams include:
While each of CANDT's opponents will have a smattering of Australia players from the State of Victoria, the state with the large majority of box lacrosse is played comparatively, the Eastern Rage will be feature players from South Australia, the Western Thunder will be comprised of players for Western Australia, and finally New Zealand will be made-up of New Zealanders (Kiwis), Australia players as previously mentioned, and several Canadian expats.
This tournament provides a proving ground for up-and-coming box lacrosse players and offers Australian Box Lacrosse and Canadian lacrosse League to evaluate players ahead of the 2026 IIJL World Junior Lacrosse Championship in Lethbridge, AB later in the year; and provide them with unique international experience.
Each teams; Canada, Eastern Rage, New Zealand Storm, and Western Things, will faces the others in a series of six (6) games for a full round-robin. The fourth and final day of the tournament, fans will see the best players from the three (3) Australian/New Zealand teams come together as the Australian Box Lacrosse All-Stars and play against Canada in a winner-take-all final for a chance to lift the Commonwealth Cup and international bragging rights.
